Meet your LSL Teacher of the Deaf Bestie
Hello! I’m Marissa!
HEAR for the Learning Adventure
Have you ever had one of those days where your eyes are tired, your brain hurts, and you just can’t solve any more problems? I FEEL YOU! That’s why I created Tiny Teacher Tales. A place where LSL teachers of the deaf can find ready-to-go resources that support the language needs of preschool children with hearing loss. Giving you activities, ideas to inspire, and everyday teacher lifestyle.
As an LSL teacher of the deaf, a lot falls on our plate. Whether it’s meeting the minutes our students require, coming up with meaningful activities, or supporting parents… the list goes on and on. Sometimes we want it to be easy and done for us, but it still helps the needs of our students with hearing loss.
Maybe you’re in need of some tips and tricks. Maybe you’re looking for engaging activities that you can also send home with parents to practice their child’s language goals. Or maybe you just need some inspo to spark your own creative juices. Whatever the case, I am here to help make your teaching life easier!
Here’s why you can trust me:
I am in my 4th year as an LSL teacher of the deaf. During my first 3 years of teaching, I was an Auditory Habilitation specialist. Each day I worked with preschool-kindergarten-aged students on their receptive and expressive language goals. I am now teaching in an LSL preschool classroom and I absolutely love it!! I have my Bachelor’s degree in Speech, Language, and hearing Sciences from San Diego State University and my Master’s degree in Deaf Education with an emphasis on Listening and Spoken Language from Utah State University. With these experiences, I have gained tools for creating fun, but also language-rich activities for students with hearing loss. Plus, I absolutely love doing it! Creating activities that seem like “play”, but bring so much to our students, is what I love doing most.
Furthermore, I have created at-home activities published on Utah State University’s early education program website. These activities have provided parents with engaging resources to implement with their children at home. Follow along on my journey supporting children with hearing loss and build your own toolbox of resources that you will use year after year! We are HEAR for the Learning Adventure!
