Intention #1: Building a Family-Like Environment
Picture this: a classroom where everyone feels part of a big, loving family. That’s my first and foremost intention. Building meaningful relationships with each and every one of my students is at the top of my list.
I want our classroom to be a place where they feel safe, seen, and supported. So, I’ll be dedicating time to really get to know each child – their interests, quirks, and unique personalities. It’s all about creating trust and making sure they know they can count on me. I will add photos of the students, create experience books, and display their artwork to build a classroom centered around my students!
And it’s not just about me. I’m encouraging a sense of camaraderie among the kids too. We’ll work on teamwork, kindness, and looking out for one another. It’s all about creating a warm, nurturing atmosphere that fosters both learning and love.
Intention #2: Fostering Independence Through Play
Preschool is a time of incredible growth and discovery, and I want my students to feel empowered. So, my second intention is all about nurturing their independence through play.
Play is how kids learn about the world, and I want to give them plenty of opportunities to explore, experiment, and problem-solve. That means setting up a classroom that encourages exploration and curiosity. From building with blocks to creating art at an independent art station, I’ll be there to guide and support them, but I also want to let them take the lead. I added this 10-drawer cart with different art materials for the kids to independently decided what items they want to use.
Independence isn’t just about solo play; it’s also about helping them learn to cooperate and collaborate. We’ll have group activities that teach them to work together, share ideas, and solve challenges as a team. It’s all part of helping them grow into confident, capable individuals.
Intention #3: Nurturing Social-Emotional Skills
Last but certainly not least, my third intention revolves around developing social-emotional skills. These skills are the building blocks for success in school and life, and I’m excited to help my little ones flourish in this area.
We’ll be exploring feelings, empathy, and communication through stories, games, and discussions. I want my students to understand their own emotions and learn how to express them in healthy ways. We’ll practice active listening and taking turns, building the foundation for strong relationships and conflict-resolution skills.
Additionally, I’ll be creating a cozy “calm corner” in the classroom where kids can go to relax and center themselves if they’re feeling overwhelmed. I’ll include a basket with sensory items-Sensory Tubes, My Feelings Rainbow Fidget Tube, Mindful Maze Boards, stuffed animals, and a blanket. It’s all about providing them with tools to navigate the sometimes-choppy waters of emotions.
So, there you have it – my intentions for the upcoming school year as a new preschool teacher. I can’t wait to embark on this incredible journey with my young learners, and I’m filled with enthusiasm and determination to make it an unforgettable experience for them.
Until next time, cheers to new beginnings and the wonderful world of preschool teaching! 🍎✏️📚
